About

“You have to write the book that wants to be written.
And if that book will be too difficult for grown-ups then you write it for children”
                    – Madeleine L'Engle

How it began

Little Light began with one book, the book, about a dear friend’s journey with cancer. It was never expected to go further than the Lady’s daughters, or at most friends and family. What Laura realised fairly rapidly was that this book was needed so much, by so many, and the Lady’s legacy lives on in the pages of each and every book.

Laura wanted to ensure that the charity supporting the first round of paperbacks benefited, so she chose to donate a percentage of each book sold back to the charity. And, alas, Little Light Shines was born. And just like in The Lady & The Thing, a pot of gold is formed for an appropriate organisation from each title, so that those needing help are also indirectly helping their peers.

To give back is the greatest gift of all, and when it accompanies tangible, tailored and targeted help through storytelling, the gift is given once again.

Little Light Publishing is a tiny business with a big heart.

We write the stories no one wants to, about difficult issues and tricky subjects, to open honest conversation with children when things need tricky explanation.

Little Light stories are a gently rhyming, creatively illustrated outpouring of care.

Each story benefits an appropriate initiative or group, so that the stories aren’t just benefiting the reader but others who might just be on the cusp of finding a spark of a possibility, in a stark situation. Little Light was made to be just that, a glimmer of hope in the dark.

Therapeutic stories are just that, stories told to help children process and deal with difficult issues through metaphorical storytelling, visualisation and imaginary worlds with parallel lessons in self-awareness and lesson learning through play.

Never forget that kindness is our superpower.

If you've read this far, I reckon you're in.

With love, Laura xxx
